Double Standard Anime Blog

End of Season Blogging

 vlcsnap-64286.jpg

As most perceptive viewers have noticed, not much gets posted here. I’m fairly busy with things in life, such as catching up on all the 2006 anime that I missed, getting an A in Calculus I, and maintaining a social life consisting mostly of LAN parties.

However, I have been watching the current series and will try to make summary reports on my favorites that conclude in the next few weeks. ex. Darker than Black, Gurren-Lagann

Because I know you are just that curious, LAN parties consist of the following:

  •  Warcraft III
    • DOTA
    • Madballz
  • Anime
    • Watching random clips of pure ownage. Rigardo and Simoun have made many appearances recently.
  • Counter-Strike
  • Rainbow Six: Vegas
    • COop Terrorist Hunt
    • VIP
      • Pwning with VIP
  • Titan Quest
    • Getting no kills due to dream-casters.
  • Super Smash Bros.
    • Marth pwns all

And much more…

Claymore 25

So Claymore motivates me once again to post, no surprise there. It seems that dramatic buildup is a specialty of this season of anime, with Claymore, Gurren Lagann, Kaze no Stigma, and Darker than Black all headed toward solid endings. This is definitely a welcome change from the seemingly inevitable great shows which have dismal ends.

As I was saying, Claymore is on the path to anime greatness, call it shounen if you must but it still has some of the best fights in anime and has maintained rigorous quality in terms of both animation and plotting. Anything that was awkward, such as the battle moving to a volcanic crater for no apparent reason, was well worth it for keeping the show fresh and intense.

Claymore 23

The silver eyed lion raged, his fury palpable in crimson waves, tearing through soft, all too human flesh. On the field of battle, they fell, one by one, bodies shattered and twisted, scattered to the icy winds until only a single warrior remained. With one last reminisce, one last cold glance back at all that she had lost, she discarded the weakness of humanity and embraced the crackling avarice and power that crawls beyond the faint light of the human soul. Flesh to steel, spirit erupting from within, she rushed into battle, only inhuman hatred guiding her blade.”

Lovely Complex 19

After eighteen episodes of hidden feelings, relentless boyfriend hunting, and a variety of strange facial expressions, Otani admits his love for Koizumi. And as they kiss under the soft glow of the fireworks, you can’t help but think one thing…IT’S ABOUT GODDAMN TIME! But wait, more episodes still?!? How can this be? Ahh, I forgot, both characters are extremely dense, Otani attracts women like a magnet, and Koizumi blows things way out of proportion. So begins the fight to keep the relationship they worked so hard to build safe.

Kaze no Stigma 20

“Her form flickered across his mind, her supple body caressed by rivulets of her own scarlet ochre and bathed in a black haze, reeking of things long deserted in worlds beyond. Her breath trails off, her curves leaving shadows of blue-grey, coloured by cold and emptiness. As her very soul leaks scarlet from the corner of her delicate lips, her eye flickers open to release a single tear, begging, silently screaming, in that single motion for redemption.”

“Sanity slipping away, agile as the wind that bound him, Kazuma screamed, his voice lost in the wind that mirrored his anguish.”

Sky Girls 07

vlcsnap-68873.jpgvlcsnap-69712.jpgvlcsnap-69270.jpgvlcsnap-69478.jpg

Sky Girls will be an easy show to blog about, since not much has happened up to episode 07. Fortunately, this anime has what it takes to maintain interest unlike *certain* others. (Nanoha Strikers) Episode 07 continues the trend of relatively meaningless missions, but manages to maintain something resembling suspense with yet another end of episode indication.

Bleach Manga 288 “The Bad Joke”

I guess I’ll start reviewing the bleach manga at chapter 288. Chapter 288 slows down the action a bit, focusing more on the one sided dialog between Espada and the various main characters. Introducing eighth Espada Szyel Grantz’s released form, this chapter does a good job of building suspense before the continuation of Renji’s and Ishada’s fight with the manipulative Szayel.

Kenko Zenrakei Suieibu Umisho 06

I’ll be beginning my reviews of Umisho with episode 6. This particular episode continues the pace and absurd sensuality of the others. Amazingly, for a fan-service based anime, Umisho shines in it’s ability to seem fresh with every episode without resorting to attempts at real plot material.

In the Beginning…

…there was one Anime Blog; now there are many, and this is one more. Albatross and I will be filling out the site as soon as our ambition allows so look for updates and encourage us! I still have some details to work out with the site theme, also. As for content, we’ll be blogging about the most recent series, although we may be starting mid-anime with our reviews. For example, not blogging Claymore would be absurd, but I don’t have the time for rewatching.

College is beginning for me, so broadband access begins while free time dwindles. Albatross and I will begin to blog more regularly once school beings and the shock of reentry into the college lifestyle wears off.

Anyway, enjoy the blog. XD
